The Sothys legend

Sothys was the name the ancient Egyptians gave to a star of dazzling clarity; it appeared to the eyes of the inhabitants of the land of the Pharaohs as the supreme jewel. Men were fascinated by its brilliance and beauty. One celestial night, Saturn encountered the young star Sothys; even Venus had never seemed to reveal such beauty. The encounter was thunderous, and an ardent passion then animated Saturn's heart, thus disrupting the regular rhythm of the life of the stars. Unable to bear to see her beauty called into question, Venus carried out her revenge and plunged Sothys into the night: thrown from the sky, she disappeared. Saturn's tears did not cease for forty days and forty nights, flooding the Earth. For centuries, the world knew nothing more of Sothys, until the day when... Sothys reappeared to confide her secret to the Earth: she dedicated herself to woman to preserve her beauty and her happiness. In her honor, men made her a goddess.
